Mission Learning Journey: 10 Days of Learning That Transformed the Way We View Missions

From 24 May to 2 June 2025, RADION International welcomed a mission team from Singapore Bible College, Bethesda Frankel Estate Church (BFEC), and Zion Bishan Bible-Presbyterian Church to participate in a 10-day Mission Learning Journey in Northern Thailand.

This journey was not a conventional short-term mission trip. Instead, it was a deep, immersive learning experience designed for participants to live alongside the local community, embrace the culture, and truly listen before engaging in any form of service. Guided by the principles of Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD), the focus was on recognising and building upon the strengths and assets already present within the community.

A highlight of the journey was the English Camp held from 30 May to 1 June, which brought together more than 70 children and youth from the local area. The camp featured interactive and engaging activities such as games, songs, drama, and English conversation workshops. Volunteers from Singapore served as mentors and facilitators, creating a fun and supportive environment for language learning, confidence building, and cross-cultural friendship.

Additionally, on 1 June 2025, RADION conducted a training session for local youth on “Preventing the Imitation of Violence in Social Media”. The workshop aimed to raise awareness about the influence of online content, especially violent behaviours, harmful language, and viral trends that may pose risks to young people. The session provided both practical information and space for open discussion, encouraging critical thinking and responsible media engagement.

Throughout the 10-day journey, participants discovered that true service begins with humility, presence, and relationship. Many reflected that they came not just to give, but to learn—gaining insights into culture, resilience, and the dignity of walking alongside communities rather than trying to lead from the outside.

This Mission Learning Journey marks a meaningful step forward in long-term partnership building between RADION and churches in Singapore. It also reaffirms our belief that sustainable missions are not about doing more, but about doing it right—with honour, respect, and shared humanity.
